audio restoration

It does not matter if it is a mechanical, a magnetic or an optical medium - by the time they will all be damaged or even be destroyed. Stored information gets useless or will be totally lost. In the audio world such things are known as copy effects on old tapes, crackling records and - since the beginning of the digital age - unreadable CDs, for instance. So what can be done about that?

Shellac record Compact Disc with its destroyed reflection-layer

If one wants to preserve the stored audio-information it should be splitted from the sound-carrier unit before it is too late. The one and only possibility to do so is a digital recording, which freezes an analogue wave form in its present condition. Then wear sound (crackles, noise) can be removed if necessary.

Finally one gets an «as close as possible to the original» digital representation of the original material on a digital carrier which can be copied again and again - without any further loss of quality. Of course, the first copy must be done before the lifetime of the chosen digital sound-carrier unit is over...

The akzent recording-studio still owns some equipment and has the experience to playback your tapes and records with the highest possible audio-quality. For this purpose there are several tape-decks, tape-machines and record-players available which will support uncommon noise-reduction systems (dbx, HighCom, Adres) or even the standard grooves on old shellacs, for instance.
